![]() ![]() In short, create high-fidelity prototypes quickly and at ease.ĭiscover ProtoPie’s free learning content designed to help you build your prototyping expertise. DOI: 10.1201/b22860-3 IN THIS CHAPTER Sketch Figma UXPin Axure RP We have discussed Mockup tools in the previous chapter, and now we will. Users can create interactions by combining objects, triggers, and responses in just a few clicks. ProtoPie’s clean and simple interface simplifies complex and powerful features from the get-go. Create rapid high-fidelity prototypes for multiple devices complete with rich animations and complex interactions in a few clicks and drags - entirely code-free.īest of all, unlike Axure, ProtoPie’s free version has no time limit. ProtoPie is the prototyping equivalent of flying to the moon without years of training. Why ProtoPie is the best rapid high-fidelity prototyping tool ![]() This limited range of features may make it unsuitable for designers who want to create realistic prototypes with rich animations and complex interactions - prototypes that look and feel like the real thing. Just like Photoshop CC and Axure RP, you can work with multiple artboards. For instance, the ability to create native prototypes for mobile devices and the use of sensors to control prototypes. This represents the specific screen you want to design for the prototype. Limited interaction featuresĪxure lacks certain features that ProtoPie has. Expect to spend some long, exhausting hours before you’ve breathed some life into a new idea. This is arguably counterbalanced by the mass of educational videos available online. Lacks intuitive learning processįor one, it’s difficult to get your head around quickly and intuitively. It is recommended that only expert UX designers (with a big budget to burn) use Axure - it comes packaged with a steep price tag and an even steeper learning curve. What’s the problem with Axure?Īxure isn’t the gold standard anymore - and for good reason. For one, Axure runs seamlessly on Windows and Mac.Īxure also allows for the creation of interactive HTML mock-ups for both websites and mobile applications, giving designers multiple perspectives on the same prototype. There’s little point in prototyping software that runs on a single platform, and Axure puts accessibility at the heart of what they do. It's not an easy program to learn, so taking advantage of the online community and training videos is essential. Lastly, there's a wealth of online training available for Axure. What tool is suited best for you and your project? Our download offers an overview of the differences between the individual tools.Previewing prototypes on the Axure Cloud. Because just like design, design tools will keep evolving. Even Axure is tackling its greatest weakness and is investing in improving its usability, so that it can be as easy to use as the other tools.Īll things considered, it is worth to keep up to date with the latest developments and updates, and to be open for new features. Figma, on the other hand, will make components interactive – inspired by Adobe XD and Axure. And this is not surprising, since Figma’s collaboration functionality has been a clear advantage of the tool in times of COVID 19. ![]() Sketch, for example, added real-time collaboration in spring 2021 – although this feature still has room for improvement. In my honest opinion, Axure RP has always been a prototyping tool that supports UX Activities and not a pure design tool like Sketch, Adobe XD and Figma. ![]() The fact that the tools’ range of functions is nearly identical is no coincidence. All four tools have launched new features in the last few months, and they will continue to improve and to follow in their competitors’ footsteps. On the other hand, you might bitterly miss features that you have come to appreciate.Įven though we currently consider Figma to have an edge over its competitors: In the long run, the race has not been won yet. Changing tools bears risks and opportunities alike: You may be rewarded with new functions that make your life easier. If you have been working with Sketch for years, you will be faster using Sketch for a new project instead of Adobe XD. The current experience with programs, too, plays a role. If clients don’t want to save their projects in a cloud, for example, Figma will not be the tool of choice for you. However, the answer to the question which project is suited best for a certain project or person depends on personal preferences and requirements. But will there ever be one? Currently, we consider Figma to be in the lead in many respects. The perfect tool for UX and UI design does not exist yet. ![]()
